Several years back, one important activist from Manipur told me that Irom Sharmila has more fans in Kerala than in Manipur. I can understand the significance of the statement now. The support of an activist at a national and international level can not be confused as a support at an electoral level. Election is a different ball game with several other factors controlling it, though the popularity of an activist may help at a certain level. Defeat in election in such a context should not be considered as a defeat of an activist.
