Great news! Calling a person from North East as `Chinki’ can land you in prison for 5 years. Hierarchical power structures in cultures have always used terms to bring down the image of cultures possessing lesser powers. Malayalees should not be called `Mallus' also. It is not as much a derogatory term as `Chinki', but there is certainly an element of that. South Indians do not call Punjabis as `Panjus' or UPites as `Uppus' or Biharis as `Bihus'. There is certainly a hierarchy divide between north Indian & south Indian cultures and a north Indian vs north east cultures as well as between the cow belt and Kashmir.
