Why is the mainstream media so dumb? Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project was opposed by the fishing community and the environmental activists due to livelihood and environmental reasons. With wider public attention on the protest, BJP also got involved due to populist reasons. But they started calling it Ram Sethu. Now the mainstream media is also calling it Ram Sethu. In 2007, it was declared in the Supreme Court that there was no historical proof that Ram built the bridge. With the Sanghi take over of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), now they are trying to build some historical proof for engineering skills of building a myth into history. The agenda is certainly communal. In the long run Ayodhya can repeat in Tamil Nadu also were Ram temples did not have much ground historically as per the Dravidian and Dalit traditions. The question now is also to the secular historians, the secular organisations, secular parties, legal activists, the academic world and the unions of the fishing community at the local level and national level connected with this issue: Are they doing their job properly to foresee the problem of manufacturing myths and converting them into history as well as converting an environmental problem into a communal problem?
