Meerut: ***“I promise I will break the hands and legs of any person who doesn't consider the cow to be a mother, or kills cows, is unwilling to say `Vande Mataram', or isn't proud to voice nationalistic slogans,“ said Vikram Saini, BJP MLA from Khatauli in UP , who was attending a felicitation event of Suresh Rana and other newly-made MLAs from the BJP in Muzaffarnagar*** [emphasis added]. Saini was the village prad han of Kawal village, from where the Muzaffarnagar riots of 2013 started. He was arrested under the National Security Act for his role in the riots. As the video of Saini went viral on social media, #BJPMLA and #Muzaffarnagar were one of the 10 most trending topics on Twitter on Sunday . Saini's speech comes at a time when the UP government is conducting a crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses. On Sunday , in a telephonic conversation with TOI, Saini, said, “What I meant was that all those people who indulge in illegal activities like killing of cows, anti-nationalism and crimes against women will have to face action as cases will be filed against them.“ Saini further said, “I am a village-based person and this is the kind of language Ispeak. But still if my words have hurt anybody's sentiments, I take my words back.“ For 1st time, 300-yr-old meat mkt in UP shut ***Gudri Bazaar in Meerut is home to a 300-year-old meat market, which for the first time in its history has seen a complete shutdown*** [emphasis added]. “This market has never before been shut in its history. Now,not a single shop is doing business in this area,“ says Taj Mohammed, a local shop owner. There are 20 shops in Gudri Bazaar, all of which have not been able to sell anything since March 23, when slaughterhouseswere sealed. KD Sharma, former history HoD of Meerut College, said, “Saying the bazaar never closed in past three centuries is debatable.
