The Sanghis in Kerala, though small in number, are smarter than the left
forces. They know jolly well how to fix an agenda for popular
consciousness. They are also aware that once the popular consciousness is
established, then the left would follow them. This process has been going
on for quite some time. The CPI(M) may think that they are against RSS.
There could be a list of number of dead bodies between the two forces to
establish this claim. But in reality, they would tend to follow the popular
consciousness. And unfortunately, that popular consciousness is often built
by the Sanghis. Take the issue of the human rights of Abdul Nasar Maudany
for example. RSS threw a bomb at his leg and he was crippled. That bomb
attack was not a `terrorist activity’ as per the popular consciousness of
progressive Keralites. That bomb which crippled his leg was the only bomb
that Abdul Nasar Maudany dealt with in his life. However, the victim is
branded. Now, how did this happen?
When Babari Masjid was demolished, Maudany came out and gave powerful
speeches against the demolition as well as against the attacks on the
Muslims that followed. In all his speeches, he consistently stated: `Even
if a thousand mosques are destroyed, not a single fistful of sand should be
taken from any temple, my children.’ You can easily understand his politics
from this statement. However, he was haunted.
The first responsible person to arrest Maudany and transfer him to
Coimbatore jail on silly grounds was Nayanar of LDF. Even the well known
jurist VR Krishna Krishna Iyer came out very strongly in support of the
human rights of Abdul Nazar Maudany in those days. After spending ten and a
half years in Coimbatore jail, he came out since the judges felt that he
was innocent. But to prove his innocence, he had to spend ten and a half
years in jail. This was ridiculous. But that was not enough. The second
time, he was handed over to Karnataka jail when Kodiyeri Balakrishnan of
CPI(M) was in power as the home minister. Again, it was for silly reasons.
As per the claims of the Karnataka Sanghi police, Abdul Nazar Maudany had
visited Coorg to plan a bomb blast in Bangalore..The bomb blast did not
kill anybody. But it finished off Abdul Nazar Maudany’s life. The Kerala
Home Department admits that Abdul Nazar Maudany had not visited Coorg as
per the dates of Karnataka police. That was enough for the left to take a
strong stand on this human rights issue. But they will not. The reason is
that the popular consciousness is built by somebody else. The left has only
to follow it.
Now when I discuss the human rights issue of Maudany with my `left’ and
`left over’ friends, I understand that the first thing that the human
rights activists should do is to argue with the Islamophobia of the `left’
and `left over’ forces, before you argue with the Sanghis. The `left’ and
the `left over’ forces act as a convenient `front’ for the Sanghis on such
matters. Because ultimately, the politics is a matter of numbers. Decisions
are made from the perspective of how many votes from which community.
Justice doesn’t.For the progressive forces in Kerala, they may have to dip
in the holy waters of Ganga three times under the half burnt floating dead
bodies to come out of this sin of fabricating Abdul Nasar Maudany.
It is not my pleasure to repeat arguments. But Hitler had stated that `if
you tell a lie once, people may not believe it, but if you tell them a
hundred times, they would believe it’. And now, what we have is a popular
consciousness built on `Lies, Damn Lies and Sanghi lies’. Any thing can
follow from that. If they say that the earth is a triangle since our
tradition of 5000 years has stated it, people may even believe it. Let us
not make any mistake on this. Logic has no space in these arguments. The
only hope is on those who stand by justice to repeat truth again and again
till these guys get fed up. Therefore, I am posting this film again:
