And a few more stray thoughts also some observations on a late Saturday night Sunday morning two days after the Festival of lights at the fag end of the year.
Like people don't usually celebrate Diwali after a death in the family. 260 infant deaths in a Gorakhpur hospital this August But this didn't stop the temporal and spiritual head of India's most backward state from celebrating and even attempting a Guiness record in the process. Those infants aren't family, the Yogi is celibate after all. Yogi Adityanath decided to bring good cheer, leading UP from darkness into light and breaking the Guiness Record all in one by lighting 187,213 lamps on the banks of the Saryu river in Ayodhya. Like the previous record of 175,000 lamps was set by yet another morally uplifting soul, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh convicted of several rapes, awaiting trial on murder charges and currently lodged in a Haryana jail. We now await Guiness's take on the record even though it's a beer company, the Yogi is a teetotaller after all. And maybe Ram Rahim will be set free for good behaviour by coming in second? Like how long will this theatre of the absurd continue with a make believe Ram, Sita and Lakshman descending from heaven in a helicopter to mark the beginning of the Yogi's jollities? Like the Supreme Court has turned up trumps by classifying sex between a man and his underage (under 15) wife as rape but the people continue to flout all laws with more than a fifth of all marriages involving underage boys and girls. And the Supreme Court once again struck a blow against pollution, banning the sale of all fireworks just before Diwali and the people once again cocking a snook at that going ahead and flouting that order polluting the atmosphere in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and even Pune beyond breathable limits. And that is why with 2.5 million deaths a year, India is No 1 in pollution fatalities. And if the people are going to be this way how can we have less government and more governance as our beloved PM has promised? Like maybe that is why Narendra Modi has changed his "profile" to look like a Generalissimo camouflage jacket, dark glasses and all and one wonders what battles he is preparing to fight or where the battlefield is. Also one wonders if the dark glasses are made in India or China or, worse still, Italy? And the Election Commission is clearly recalcitrant: unmindful of Narendra Modi's plea to hold simultaneous State Assembly and General Elections it is refusing to even announce simultaneous Assembly elections. Like one wonders which league Barca will feature in if Catalonia truly becomes Independent? -- Peace Is Doable -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Green Youth Movement" group.
