Dear Friends, Reproduced below is a message which may be considered of general interest for the following two reasons.
I. It does once again shed light on the type of digital world we're living in - its great advantages packed with some potentially grave pitfalls. (Of course, nothing too new about it. Nonetheless.) II. Far more crucial is the fact that the (micro?) cyber attack confers an additional salience on the subject exchange referred to in the message below. (The "exchange" itself is reproduced below that.) The wanton deletion of messages from my mailbox surely goes to establish an attack. However, the selective deletion of messages from the websites of the two e-groups mentioned therein, one would tend to imagine, is of even more serious nature. Even the group adminstrator cannot delete any message from a Google Group once the message is posted. Hence, regardless of my admittedly very low level of technical knowledge, it'd be safe to presume that these operations did call for use of some specialised digital tool(s). The level of effort input must be indicative of the wherewithal of one/those carrying out these operations. That takes us to the final point. Deletion of footprints has been considered important enough to call for engagement of such a resourceful and technically capable entity. That underlines the salience of the exchange. Apart from drawing attention to the two issues listed above, I do have another strictly personal interest as well. I do strongly believe that when under attack from an adversary way mightier, the best possible way to minimise the probability of any further and more lethal attack is to make as much song and dance as possible.
