[Gregorio-devel] adding vertical space

I'd like to add more space between each line of text and the following staff. How can I do this? When I added a call to the macro 

\updateadditionalspaces{3}{3}
the spacing changed as desired, but the clefs no longer were placed on the proper staff lines. 

The attached image demonstrates the effect.

Perhaps this isn't the right micro for me to use?
