Hello,

As the database of gregorio users is growing, I think we should care
about license issues, and think about a gabc repository...

First, license issues: do anyone know under which license a gabc file
can have? Or if you have the right to copy a score in a book? What I
understood is the following:

 - old vatican scores are under the public domain (you can't photocopy
it, but you can reproduce the scores with gregorio), maybe new ones are too
 - Solesmes own the copyright on their rythmic signs, so if you copy a
Solesmes score with gregorio, you need to change at least one rythmic
sign, for it to be different.
 - books before 1939 are in the public domain, so you can reproduce the
scores. This seems a contradiction with the previous point, because most
Solesmes Antiphonaries are mostly dates from 1934... But the second
point may deal with very recent Solesmes Antiphonaries of Vatican II.

Do you know other things? I think I'll try to contact Solesmes to ask
them about their copyright...

What do you think about a gabc repository? How do you think it would be
organized? By book? What would be the copyright of the gabc files? I
think the best thing would be to put the gabc files under public
domain... if there can be a copyright on such small files... I think
I'll add a license field to the gabc files. I think that on a repository
we should also put a sample pdf, and some copyright explanations.

I'm also thinking about making a paypal thing for donations, because
traveling in abbeys without working does not bring so much money...

Please tell me what you think about all that!
