This is basically my understanding as well, at least in terms of  
copyright law in most European countries (a work published by a  
collective group/unnamed authors enters the public domain 70 years  
after its publication date). US copyright law formerly, up until the  
1970s, released works into the public domain after a much shorter  
period -- which I think is why you can find some later Solesmes books  
(like from the 1950s and 1960s) online. But I do think contacting  
Solesmes themselves would be a good idea anyway, so everything can be  
clear on what scores can be reproduced.

Releasing gabc files under public domain sounds fine to me, but I'm no  
expert in licensing issues...

much work you've put into Gregorio...
