Hello,

Several years ago when the ability to indicate Dominican chant quarter bars
was implemented in Gregorio, they were added as modifications to the half
bar notation, i.e.: ;1 ;2 ;3 ;4 ;5 ;6 would produce the various heights of
the bars.

Would it be possible to modify the system so that instead of the semicolon
(;) the comma (,) would be used along with the numbers to indicate the
height of the bar? The reason I think this would be helpful is that the
Dominican variable height bars are conceptually closer to the quarter bar
than the half bar, so it would be more intuitive for the notation to be ,1
,2 ,3 ,4 ,5 ,6 .

However, if a change was made, I think it would be helpful to leave the
semicolon indications in place as well, to ensure backwards compatibility
with chant scores.

Yours,

br. Innocent, op
