So then there's an alternate definition of the aliases somewhere for
Plain and the aliases serve to simplify access to the formatting
commands in files that the both Plain and LaTeX can use. Do you recall
off hand where those Plain definitions were? If not I'm sure I'll
stumble across them as I work.
In any case, it seems to me that the user doesn't need access to them
and I can simply make them internal only.
