I did consider using xstring functions, but the problem is handling
verbatims and special characters and styling of the first letter.

\ifgre@vowelcentering becomes a count (\gre@lyriccentering).
Use \ifcase\gre@lyriccentering in \GreSetThisSyllable. Case 0 and 1

This should put the first letter into the alignment portion of the
syllable (the middle), and everything else into the post alignment
portion (the end).
Modify \gresetlyriccentering to set the new count and add a
`firstletter` option.
