Hello,

first thank you a lot for your message and your interest in Gregorio!
The main advantage of Gregorio is really the needed amount of work, as
all the glyph calculation, the text aligment, etc. is done by the
software, which saves a lot of time.

I had the plan to develop a GUI, but the needed amount of work is
consequent, and my priority in the last months has been to improve the
output and to get more glyphs and more possibilities into Gregorio, as
the users asked it. So I didn't really had time to develop this GUI,
though I have a very small one, but far from being ready to use...

Gregorio uses LaTeX to produce the score. One of my projects is now to
develop OTF font support for LaTeX, so that people can use more text
fonts into Gregorio (like Adobe's Garamond for example), and this
project is very time consuming, even if it is temporary, as the deadline
is in May. So I'm not working on Gregorio now (at least not directly),
but I'll work on it again in May.

The next version will be mainly bugfixes, and some small typesetting
additions. I must admit I have no idea of a date for a version with a
GUI... to be honest I'm not sure I will have time to do it... But
Gregorio is a free software, so anyone can contribute! If you know some
developers, I'd be happy to let them join the development and to help
them building a GUI!

I've been developing Gregorio during three years in my free time, mostly
alone and without funds... I just graduated from a French Grande École,
and I've found a job in Romania for at least one year, so I'm not sure
I'll be able to develop Gregorio as fast as before... So I think the
best way you can help is by finding a developer to help me... Or maybe
there is a monk in you abbey who has development skills?

P.S.: during the development of Gregorio, I've been staying in the
Monastery of St Benedict in Norcia (Italy), I think the prior (Fr
Cassian Folsom) is from your abbey?
