Hi Fr. James, do you use Windows or Linux on your PC ?
The "old computer language from the 1970's" you're talking about, I think Latex, is one of the best ever computer language in world to make text documents with anything you can imagine in it (music, mathematics, picture, ...). Many books are made with this language. Many French universities ask their students to use it. But it is not as simple as MS Word because it is not WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get). As for the faith : the simple way is not right way. With Gregoriotex and Latex, in order to do simple things, you can create a Latex file and then convert it as a "DVI" file. Some compilers can use this DVI file to make PDF or picture. From the PDF or the picture, you will be able to insert your score in a word document. Something simple is to use TexLive (or MacTex on Apple computer), with its tool TexWorks which is a text (Tex) editor and can compile very easily your files. So, coming back to the first question : Windows or Linux ? Regards, Boris ----- Mail original ----- De: "Fr. James Moore, O.P. I am a DMA student in Sacred Music at the Catholic University of America. I am in need of a chant engraving program (could be modern note heads or neumes) to do a major project in chant. I was recommended your program by a number of the brothers in the Dominican order and am trying to figure it out. I regularly use finale as my modern notation program. I am also VERY computer illiterate. Finale is very difficult for me to use, but I have gotten the hang of it due to a lot of practice last summer. I am hoping to do the same thing with a comparable chant program. However, it seems as though to use Gregorio I would have to use an old computer language from the 1970's. I am also unable to follow the logic of the tutorial (or do to it online). My brothers have also warned me that it is very difficult to get Gregorio working on a PC computer...I feel overwhelmed! CAN YOU HELP ME PLEASE??? Many thanks and God bless! Fr.
