There are 3 reasons :
- first, I want to be able to make modifications some (very future) day ...
- using standard ubuntu package does not seem to install extension
for scribus
- I have read somwhere here that standard uburntu package is a bit outdated
About autoconfig.ac, I have not seen in the various proecedures that I
need to use it, and how too use it.

I never tried to install gregorio from source, but used the distribution
package.

I just checked out the last version of gregorio and the executable file
"trunk/configure" is still present. I wonder if you have issued a "cd trunk"
before running "./configure".
