OK, my mistake, I had mixed documentations.
My conclusion is that ubuntu standard package is outdated.
But I did success installing from svn sources as indicated in
http://home.gna.org/gregorio/installation-linux "For ubuntu and debian".
I did change only one thing : I did not use libltd3-dev nor libltd7-dev
but libltd-dev
I had to aptitude install one package when required
(texlive-fonts-recommended).
Now I have to try "Populus Sion"...
