Being able to produce any particular book is one thing, doing it with clear separation of content and formatting is another. Please read on. Henry actually raises an important issue here. Treating gabc code as the visual representation of a particular edition has its problems. Recall the issue at <http://gna.org/bugs/?21793> where, because of the aucta modifier on the oriscus, the user's supposed intent is being ignored as it does not make sense in the ligature's visual formation. If the form of a (non-ligated) oriscus is indeed an editorial preference of a particular edition, then it should rather be considered the editor's "house style," and thus set document-wide, either by some header switch or a font selection (the former could automatically do the latter). If we talk about oriscus of same "orientation" but different typeface, then we definitely talk about the editor's house style, and preferably the document-wide setting applies here as well.
