I think, if you install gregorio using the package, you shouldn't need to
build gregorio. It should be ready to run at that point. However, as the
web page says, if it doesn't work for you at that point, you should try to
get the git version and build/install it using those commands and the
others listed on the web page.

I downloaded and installed MacTex, installer, & XCode. Then Command Line
Tools, and and MacPorts, and did the 'sudo port selfupdate' and 'sudo port
install libtool autoconf automake flex bison libxml2'.
Then I downloaded and installed Gregorio (gregorio-2.3-macosx-intel.pkg)
I did not get the git version, so I skipped that step.
Then I didn't know if I was supposed to copy and paste line by line or all
at once. I tried it various ways, but none seem to work. I also didn't know
if the "(if you have the git version)" referred to the whole command, or
just to the "-i" so I tried various combos.
here is the text from the terminal:
sbs-macbook-pro:~ sb$ autoreconf -f
autoreconf: 'configure.ac' or 'configure.in' is required
sbs-macbook-pro:~ sb$ ./configure CFLAGS='-I/opt/local/include'
CPPFLAGS='-I/opt/local/include' LDFLAGS='-L/opt/local/lib'
-bash: ./configure: No such file or directory
Thanks for the help, and Merry Christmas to all!

these things to non-standard locations requires a bit of experience to do).
