Greetings. I am running TexShop on a MacBook Air with OS X Yosemite (version
10.10.3). I have successfully installed TexShop and Gregorio, and I have made
the minor modifications in OS X noted here
<http://gregorio-project.github.io/configuration-texshop.html>.  I am trying to
run the simple compile using PopulousSion.gabc and test.tex. I have renamed
PopulusSion example.gabc, and I have changed the callout to example.gabc in
test.tex (the system could’t find the file when I followed the instructions and
just called it “example.”) When I compile this, I receive an error message.

(./example.gabc
./example.gabc:6: String contains an invalid utf-8 sequence.
l.6 name: P
         ópulus Sion;
?

I had a feeling that this was the result of the compiler not liking the
diacriticals on the Latin vowels, so I went through “Populous Sion” and changed
the character set to normal ASCI letters. Now, when I compile, I get a new
error message,

(./example.gabc
./example.gabc:20: Missing $ inserted.
<inserted text>
$
l.20 ...,) ad(iv./hig) sal(fe)van(ghg)das(fg) gen(e_
                                                  f_e_)tes(e.) :(:)
?

I cannot resolve this. If I remove the offending text at line 20, the
compilation just breaks down at line 21.

Interestingly, I have TexWorks installed on a Windows PC at the Monastery, and
exactly the same problem is happening over there. My priority is to fix the OS
X issue but hopefully the same fix will apply on the Windows side.

I hope someone can help. Thank you!

Brother Noah
