Yes. It's probably heretic to say but for serious typography Heirloom
troff offers much more possibilities.

Alas, I don't have time to do that (and admittedly, I also lack some
drive currently to invest time into groff). My current work is
concentrated on ttfautohint, FreeType, and LilyPond.
Werner
