I don't know that we'll do anything like that. While we appreciate donations, we're not interested in implementing something like a licensing scheme (or something similar). It is a nice idea at first glance, but at least in my mind it's a lot more complicated to do right, and we have bugs and features that I think we should address rather than spending time on this.
I would definitely recommend keeping a physical folder with a receipt for either case, that way if there is any question you can refer back to it.
