The other thing to check would be whether you have multiple instances  
of GrowlHelperApp running. You can check this using the Activity  
Monitor.

If that's the case, run the Uninstall Growl app on the Growl disk  
image, then reinstall Growl. (Don't touch GrowlMail—if this is the  
case, GrowlMail is working fine.)
