Try this:
<http://growl.info/hg/logging-scripts/archive/tip.zip>
Run EnableLogging, then receive some mail and get the two
notifications. Then, open this file in your favorite text editor:
Your Home folder
Library
Logs
Growl.log
That should tell you each notification and what application sent it.
When you've collected the evidence, run DisableLogging.
