You do realize that the 'issue' would only affect you if you also install GrowlMail right? Growl and GrowlMail are not the same thing. GrowlMail is just an extension and isn't even installed by default. Therefore you could run Growl without any worry about it and then just not install the GrowlMail extra until you read that there's been a fix.
