[System info: Mac OS X 10.5.8 with all current Apple updates (Safari
5.0.1, iTunes 9.2.1 were latest from SoftwareUpdate) running on MacBook
Pro 15" (MacBookPro2,2). Growl's style is "Bubbles".]
Proximal cause of fast roll is 500-1000 or more of these kinds of
messages per minute:
2010-08-01 11:08:16 GrowlHelperApp[4380] Display frame {{1165, 650},
{270, 54}} is completely within screen frame {{0, 4}, {1440, 874}};
adjusting in primary direction
I can't find a Growl preferences item for log verbosity or level.
I did a fairly clean reinstall, via uninstall of 1.2.1 using the
provided script followed by reinstall of 1.2.1. The problem continued
with reinstalled 1.2.1.
I then downgraded to Growl 1.2, via uninstall of 1.2.1 using the
provided script followed by install of a freshly downloaded 1.2. The
problem cleared up with 1.2.
Growl 1.2 is not as chatty about every display rect calculation when
multiple notices are on screen. 1.2 logs a message like the following
only once per overlap detected (even this is probably too much :-) ):
2010-08-01 11:41:27 GrowlHelperApp[5520] positionDisplay: could not
reserve initial rect; looking for another one
I need log visibility at current levels, so I'll have to stick with
Growl 1.2 unless you have suggestions for de-chattifying 1.2.1. (Users
don't need that kind of rect calculation debug info all the time,
anyway.)
