Chris,

With all do respect I fully believe it is because of Growl after running some 
more tests. 

After reinstalling the program it *seemed* to work fine, but now I'm thinking I 
didn't let it sleep for long enough. Now after sleeping for 2+ hours with Growl 
installed the problem is happening again. If I stop/uninstall Growl and let the 
computer fall asleep it does wake up properly. 

I haven't changed any other setting or installed/uninstalled any programs 
during this testing period other than Growl. 

As I type this I'm on hold with Apple so I will try and probe into what might 
be causing this.
