What do you mean by this? What are you seeing?

No, it's not mysterious at all. It's an application inside a prefpane. The
application is what shows notifications and the prefpane is where you configure
it.

Dropbox puts the prefpane (with the application inside) is in the
PreferencePanes folder inside the Library folder in your Home folder. Our
installer puts it in the PreferencePanes folder inside the Library folder on
your startup disk. Our uninstaller removes it from both places, so you should
find it in neither, which means it's not installed. If you do find it, remove
it manually.

If Growl is still running, search for it in Activity Monitor and kill anything
named GrowlHelperApp. The uninstaller should do this, too.

The uninstaller has always worked for us, both killing the Growl background
process and removing the Growl prefpane from either or both locations, but you
wouldn't be the first person it's mysteriously failed for.
