If by “check mail” you mean “check Mail's Preferences”, that's exactly what it
does: It gets the server name and username from Mail's Preferences. It gets the
password from the Keychain because that's where Mail puts it.

I have no idea. Does it say anything besides “smtplib.SMTPAuthenticationError”?
