I am having the same issue and can't find any solution. I am running MacOS Lion 10.7.1, Growl 1.2.2, Thunderbird 6.0.1. All with most recent updates. Growl notifications work for other apps, such as Adium. I have disabled all extensions in TB.
Although Growl has an entry for Thunderbird under 'Applications,' and I have enabled Notifications for new mail, no notification is displayed for any Thunderbird event.
