That confirms Rudy's theory: Thunderbird is not talking to Growl. This problem 
already existed before you deleted Thunderbird's saved registration; doing that 
confirmed it.

Since other applications are working for you, that means it is a Thunderbird 
problem, so you'll need to contact Mozilla and ask them about it.
