I've used CapSee for awhile - displays shift / reverse video shift indicators 
in a style consistent with the volume key setting display.

Interesting idea to send Growl notifications for that purpose, but CapSee is 
prettier and simpler for what I want.

Using it as a simple test case for various upcoming issues is a good idea 
though.
