The change that broke applications that use old frameworks wasn't an API change
(which would be *in the framework*).

The change that broke old frameworks was the move from a .prefPane to a .app.

The Growl developers have said before that they will not change Growl back to a
prefpane. It must be an app to be in the App Store, and being in the App Store
means no more simple updater (remember all the users who thought Growl had an
update every day?) and no more having to work to integrate Sparkle into a
prefpane. It also means having Apple's validation that Growl is not malware.

No APIs were removed in any hitherto released version of the framework.
