I seriously believe that you'll be using Windows before you find even a small number of Non-App Store replacements. While you can loathe Apple for its new method, it is clearly obvious that most developers are securing seats on the "train" which has already left the station. ;-) There are too many developers hearing from others about the increased sales (and profits) and publicity to stop this now. And many small developers are more than happy to let Apple provide the server space and its upkeep plus the headaches of maintaining user lists, serial numbers, etc.

I believe you'll also find "sandboxing" on the Windows side sooner than later, whether you care for the security or not, of course, is your choice. >Here's another chunk of Mac professionals screwed over by Apple and looking > to move to PCs to do their creative work - once the province of Macs, > but no longer valued enough by Apple to consider their requirements. Sorry, but Apple is in business to make a profit. That means the larger the installed base, the better. The vast majority of Mac owners are NOT professional designers. What you are doing can, most likely, be done with a Windows machine. Whether you'll be as efficient or not, or enjoy it or not, is totally up to you. Get the tools you want and need and remember you are not married to them. You are perfectly entitled to change whenever you want. I think it won't be too terribly long before Apple stops making any computer. You know they dropped that part of their name several years ago... ;-) Maybe you should get a head start on whatever platform you think will be around in 30 years... > On Nov 16, 5:03 pm, fdm225 <[email protected]> wrote: > > Hi, > > I have no issue with giving to developers but is there a non app store > > way to purchase growl? Since most of the apps at the Store seem to be somewhat less expensive than before, perhaps you can ask your favorite developers if they have a PayPal account or some other method by which you could send them a little more cash to show them how much you appreciate their work. I suspect very few of them would turn you down. And you'd BOTH feel better! ;-) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Growl Discuss" group.
