This seemed to do the trick Chris. I uninstalled Growl using the uninstall package (http://growl.info/downloads) and made sure the application was successfully removed from the applications folder. I made sure Spotify was closed. I then found version 1.2.2 (http:// growl.en.softonic.com/mac) and installed. Once it was fully loaded I started Spotify and it worked! Now you can upgrade to 1.3.1 and Spotify will be in your application list. Kind of a silly work-around but at least it works!
