Firefox doesn't have Growl frameworks integrated (according to Growl Version Detective and Firefox does not add a Growl Ticket when launched) and the only Firefox extension I could find (Growl/GNTP 1.2.5) stopped working with the Firefox 8.0 release. I even tried the 3.6.25 version and it still didn't work.
Unless they add Growl frameworks or someone writes a better extension, you won't get notifications.
