I can give you some information on the Growl side and talking to
Growl, but I don't know how you would go about getting that info to
the connector. Growl supports receiving notifications via GNTP from
Javascript + Flash, and in 2.1 we will (experimentally) support GNTP
coming from Javascript + Websocket. You can find out more about GNTP
here: http://growl.info/documentation/developer/gntp.php and the flash
connector is available here: http://www.growlforwindows.com/gfw/developers.aspx
under the integration section (Growl for windows is an unrelated third
party, whom we work with on the GNTP spec). The idea that popped into
my head was a site specific extension for your browser that watched
for certain events to happen on the page, and then fires a
notification to the notification system. You could send either to
Growl directly, or to the browser's notification system using html5
notes, and then use a plugin for firefox or chrome for sending all
those to Growl. Im not an extension developer, so Im not terribly
knowledgable of how to do all this, but if you decide to pursue it, Im
willing to help if you run into issues with the Growl side of
things.
