@helix, It sounds like you don't quite understand what Growl does and why.
It is not your average app that take input from YOU and does something with
it, like printing a letter or surfing the web or editing an image. Growl
only works if other developers create apps that work with it. In other
words, the INPUT for Growl comes from other apps, not you. Before Mountain
Lion, there was no "Notification" system included in the OS. And that's a
big reason Growl was created. And even now, Growl still does things that
the "Notification" system can't/won't. And that's why it is still a benefit
for those who use it. However, the basic, stripped down, non-modifiable,
bland Apple created Notification Manager may be all you want/need. If so,
you are welcome to use it.

So, instead of complaining about what does not work in Growl, learn more
about it and its dependence on all the other developers who must do a bit
of work to get their apps to send their info to Growl. :-) Besides, the
developers of Growl are hundreds of times more helpful and available than
the ones at Apple. Have you ever sent a question to Apple and received
a response from a programmer? LOL!

Have a great day! And enjoy your notifications, no matter how you get them!
:-)
