I can only say that you must be very difficult to please if you buy
something as outrageously extensive as a $40 shirt! LOL! If you really need
to $4 I'm sure we can get enough donations from satisfied users to cover
that... maybe just a quarter from the 30 folks who have four and five star
ratings of the app at the Mac App Store?

Honestly, John, I don't think you have any concept of what this app does
and how it has to be supported by any app that uses it. Some of those app's
developers have updated their code, some have not, some have stopped
support, some don't seem to care. The developers of Growl actually
demonstrated to Apple what eventually became the Notification Center, in my
humble opinion. So far Apple's copy still does not provide the same
capabilities. YMMV.

So, first, I would suggest you learn what the app is supposed to do, then
learn about the computer and its utilities (Activity Monitor, Console, Disk
Utility, even Grab!) that you have already paid for. If you don't use them,
you'll probably never be able to trouble-shoot anything nor help explain to
the developers (of any app) what is happening. While you don't have to be
able to build your own car, it certainly helps if you can tell the
mechanics what the symptoms are, when they occur and how long. Usually, "It
doesn't work right" can get you an extremely expensive "fix."

While you may find the developer's comments "dismissive," I find them
extremely patient. Just for grins, you might try developing something as
complicated as an app that requires support from not only the company that
builds the computer but also from any app that works with the app. Talk
about 'design by committee!' WOW! And some of them won't even talk to you
about changes they are considering and new functions that will completely
break your app! Believe me, the developers of Growl can't afford to Fedex
your $4 to you, they are not getting rich!

Lastly, if you want a refund, you'll have to talk to Apple, they are the
ones who setup the Mac App Store and force all developers to follow their
rules, whether they are good for the customer or not. Frankly, I avoid the
MAS whenever possible. I'd much rather the developer get 100% of the price
than only 70. But that's just me. Hope you have better days! Maybe someone
will offer to buy you a cup of what goes for "coffee" at Fivebucks! Oh!
Wait! They changed their name to Starbucks when the price went up, again!
LOL!
