Growl dropped GrowlTalk (the udp protocol) years ago. It was unstable at
best. It sounds like this integration you're working with is really old.

There is a lot of information around bindings and GNTP, which is the newer
protocol. https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/2942 shows a bug they haven't
accepted into the timeline if I'm reading redmine correctly. If you want
this you'd likely need to submit a patch to address it. We have plenty of
examples here from others:
