I was missing the line "env  = GLOBUS_TCP_PORT_RANGE=50000,50099" in
 /etc/xinetd.d/gridftp

# cat  /etc/xinetd.d/gridftp
service gsiftp
{
instances               = 100
socket_type             = stream
wait                    = no
user                    = root
*env                     = GLOBUS_TCP_PORT_RANGE=50000,50099*
server                  = /usr/sbin/globus-gridftp-server
server_args             = -i
log_on_success          += DURATION
nice                    = 10
disable                 = yes
}

I restarted globus-gridftp-server -- and will try again.


My hosts file is below:
# cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1   localhost
