Hi Don,
I am also following the inbox zero principle but found it a bit awkward
to mantain all those @action folders. Instead I just keep all emails I
need at hand in the inbox -- be them reference material, actionable
stuff, or just reminders of delegated actions -- and archive everything
else. In particular, if I reply to an email and wish to receive an
answer, I keep it in the inbox as a reminder. Mozilla Thunderbird has an
"archive" feature that is really useful, and it also lets me do
full-text searches for the archived stuff.
On an average day I receive 20-30 emails, and with this method I usually
end up with 10 to 20 emails at any given time in the inbox. Some stay
there for months, but just because they do not need to be acted upon
immediately, e.g. airline tickets booked some months in advance.
Cheers,
Giovanni

Does anyone have suggestions for processing email and not turning it
into a second GTD system. I try to follow the inbox zero methodology
and apply GTD as I go through my inbox, filing emails in @action,
@waiting_for, etc. folders, but I find myself trying to maintain two
separate GTD systems as a result, and it is maddening. I don't want to
just toss the email. Should it all be moved to reference folders once
it is input into mGSD?
Appreciate any tips.
