I think before my application was pointing to gtk1.2 and I was getting this error which I corrected in the configure file: Error and correction method below: It complained about token (should I replace 1.2.0 with something else?) In file /vocal/sip/gua/gui/configure.in instead of AM_PATH_GTK(...) it should be AM_PATH_GTK_2_0(...). You are trying to compile and link a Gtk+ 1.2 program with Gtk+ 2.x -- and GCC is innocent here. Compile and link the program with Gtk+ 1.2. If you use pkg-config, the module is called gtk+, not gtk+-2.0.
