Maybe re-testing and reopening the bug if it still applies would be
useful. I'm not going to blame you for giving up, but patches inside
the comments, and no clear test case for the bug means it's very very
time-consuming to reproduce let alone fix.

This problem is going to apply to more projects than just GTK+,
especially those with nearly 2000 bugs opened against them.
