Do you have a stacktrace, the relevant log output or at least the
old fileinfo file? Otherwise, I'm not sure whether that's been fixed
or not.

You don't have to play the text adventure. Just run

  ./Configure -Oders [other options...]

You can probably pass -Dmsgfmt=msgfmt or -Dgmsgfmt=msgfmt or both
so that you don't have to edit the Makefile.

There have been a few bug fixes that would justify a new release
but there's no plan for a new release at the moment.
