Yup, if there were no comments, this would be identical to the first patch in my repo. It fixes the issue for GLib >= 2.10, but the problem still occurs with previous GLib versions. The second patch (the one dated from Jul 18), adds an objectRef call for GLib < 2.10 and that fixes it. I've sync'ed this last patch with the current trunk and it's at my repo. Feel free to pull.
