Sort of.  Some of us have enjoyed abrupt failures of our GTSs with few
if any complaints from the ECU in dealer or diagnostic mode.  At least
one of us pinned it down to the TPS.  There seems to be a weak link in
the design in there somewhere.

My advice is to proceed with your plan.  Report whatever you find out,
because some of us are still quite stuck with the problem!
