I've been using a ScottOiler for a couple of years now. It extends chain
life on my bikes by at least 50%. You need to check it occasionally to make
sure it hasn't lost its prime. The ambient temperature also effects the
viscosity of the oil which effects the flow rate, which means you need to
adjust the flow rate based upon the air temp. On the Iron Butt Rally, it
quit working about half way through the rally, and I didn't notice until the
end of the rally. I have the touring model. It was fairly straight forward
and easy to install.
Check out www.hawkeoiler.com. Our own John Laurenson improved upon the
concept and is marketing his version. I saw it installed on his bike and
it's a sanitary unit. It has the advantage that it delivers the oil on
demand with a small pump. That means you can lube it when you're slowed
down for a town, etc. and it won't fling the oil as bad.
