The thing to do is get a fuse tap for the switch line,
and run the power line directly from the battery (via
an inline fuse) to the accessory.  Fuse taps fit in to
the fuse box, and surround a fue, leaving a tab from
which you run a wire to the relay.  $.99 for 6 at your
local radio shack or auto prats stroe, and worth every
penny.

As for location, you can hide the relay anywhere.
When I was at radio shak the other day for Project
Rosy Palms (heated grips) they have something called a
"project box" which is nothing more than a plastic box
that can be sealed up.  You run the new switched
through the top plate, and the switchgear is all house
in this box.  Best of all, it comes with a brushed
aluminum face place that matches the GTS bar clamp
really nicely.  Not sure exactly where I'll mount it,
but there seems to be a few options.
