hey man, good to hear from you after too long.  wife doing fair, thanks, but
much better after spring/summer/fall-from-hell.

wanted to get back to respond to your particularly excellent suggestion of
candidate for 'mystery part.'  alas, following what i hoped was good
workshop technique, i had eliminated what possibilities i could, and had
already ruled out the appendix.

you see, i got so jazzed by this do it yourself in your own garage, handy,
wrenchy, fix it thing that folks were helping me towards that in the warm up
run before flushing the brakes last week i said what the heck, let's have at
it and decided to remove my own appendix and my gallbladder while i was at
it.  wasn't too hectic really by following the shop manual, and just like
they say, imagine the glow of satisfaction knowing you've done that fine job
yourself.  ;^)

but, thanks for the good idea -- you can see though how it happened to be
not in the running.
